Marty Jones attends the National Association of Subrogation Professionals conference to speak about wildfire case development
Marty Jones and Jeff Berino, CFEI, CCFI, B.S. a senior Fire Investigator associated with Pie Forensic Consultants from Arvada, Colorado, co-presented at the National Association of Subrogation Professionals on 11/12/12. Their presentation, titled “Cutting Edge Management of Wildfire Subrogation – The Big Burn” described the advantages of a team approach to developing a wildfire subrogation case. Analysis of external factors such as multiple ignitions, first responder actions, building code issues, weather influences, code compliance, and potential spoliation were explored, as well as the relevance of remote weather station data and the use of LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology as it relates to wildfire origin and cause. The utilization of case studies and hands-on demonstrations provided attendees with valuable information for use in building or defending a plaintiff’s case in wildfire subrogation. Jones, a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, has over 20 years of experience handling wildfire cases for utility companies and individuals.
